A Guide to Food & Drink in Trastevere, Rome
Save these places to your maps: you're gonna want to try them all!
Just when I thought Rome couldn’t be any more magical, I wandered into Trastevere. Located a short walk across the Tiber River from the busy city center, Trastevere feels a world away from the busy Trevi Fountain and other Roman sights. What was once the working class neighborhood of ancient Rome is now a hip enclave filled with lively bars, cool shops, and amazing restaurants. Though Trastevere has changed a lot since ancient Roman times, you can still sense what it used to be as you walk down the cobblestone streets that turn into winding alleys at a moment’s notice.
Trastevere is a must if you’re visiting Rome, and I’m here to share some must-see shops and restaurants for your visit!
No trip to Rome is complete without sampling Rome’s signature street-food, Supplì. Similar to arancini, it’s cheesy, warm, and filled with comfort food flavors. Hidden inside the breading on these deep friend croquettes, you’ll find homemade ragu, rice, and mozzarella.
Supplì are the perfect quick snack to munch on as you’re exploring Rome, and this shop in Trastevere is a must-visit!
