The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, affectionately known as The Guggenheim, has been on my travel bucket list for a long time. Partially because I love art museums and always seek them out when I travel; but mostly because it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the building is incredibly unique. One afternoon this past summer I finally made it to the Guggenheim!

It did not disappoint: I greatly enjoyed my time spent wandering through the galleries at the Guggenheim. The main gallery is a spiral that winds its way up the perimeter of the six story atrium. I can honestly say I’ve never been to an art museum like this one. The atmosphere is so unique thanks to the design of the building. Everywhere I went, I saw other people looking at the art and delighting over the shape of the galleries. It lends a childlike joy to the way viewers interact with the art.
The main gallery houses temporary exhibits, and the smaller galleries off of the atrium house the permanent collection of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, early Modern, and contemporary art. The permanent collection was impressive!

I captured these photos of my afternoon spent perusing the galleries of the Guggenheim, which is, in my opinion, an absolutely beautiful way to spend an afternoon in New York City.
