Whether you’re passing through Oaxaca City and truly only have one day there or you’re simply looking for inspiration, you’ve come to the right place. Through careful research (my personal vacation) and trial and error (several days spent combing the city) I have compiled the perfect day.

8 a.m. First off, you’re gonna want to caffeinate: Oaxaca is a feast for the senses, and it’s going to be a very full day!

There are several excellent coffee shops to choose from. I recommend popping into the tiny Café "El Volador". Not only do they serve delicious locally roasted coffees, but the location is a must-see. It’s tucked into a quiet and beautiful neighborhood alongside the historic aqueduct. The Acueducto de Oaxaca is a sight you must see while here: walk through the ancient archway that connects this neighborhood to the next. Note that El Volador does offer a few pastries, but you’re going to want to save room for breakfast at our next destination.
