We’re nearing the holiday season, friends! This month I’m sharing some natural wine recommendations that will go well with whatever you’re serving at your parties and holiday dinners. A white, a sparkling orange, a rosé, and a red: I’ve got a wine in every color for you to try!
Sandy Cove Sauvignon Blanc 2023
I have a newfound love for New Zealand wine after having visited their wine region this past spring, so I’ve been intrigued by this bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough for a while. The cute label tempted me at several natural wine shops until a friend finally gifted me with the bottle. White nectarines, white peaches, lemon jolly rancher, grapefruit, grass, mineral, and a hint of green bell pepper at the end!
So many tasting notes in a clean, crisp white wine. It’s both delicate and interesting, crisp and light, high acid and dry. Sandy Cove’s Sauvignon Blanc is light and easy drinking while also filled with well-rounded flavor. Serve this one chilled with snacks before dinner. It’s a very good example of Sauvignon Blanc!
Col Tamarie by Vigna San Lorenzo
This skin contact Prosecco from the Veneto, Italy is one of my all-time favorite wines, and the holiday season is the perfect time to break open a few bottles!
Lemon, citrus, stone fruits, mineral, a hint of yeast, and a creamy finish all dance on the palate making this wine complex and easy-drinking at the same time. It’s dry and high acid. The skin contact adds body; this is unlike any other Prosecco I’ve ever tasted. It can hold its own against a rich holiday feast!
Plus, Col Tamarie comes from a small low-intervention winery that has very high standards. This is the only wine that Vigna San Lorenzo makes: the fact that it receives so much loving attention is apparent.
In my opinion, it’s always rosé season; Thanksgiving is no exception! A cool glass of rosé is the perfect balance to heavy turkey dinner, or perhaps you live in a warmer climate and November isn’t a chilly month— Ovum Pnk Salt is the wine for you. It’s bright, minerally, acidic, and refreshing.
I’ve recommended Ovum’s white blend before, and their rosé is equally as delicious. You’ll find tasting notes of apple, melon, lime, floral, and mineral with a touch of that saltiness they claim on the label. This combination of flavors along with the acidity of the wine make it perfect for cutting through a rich holiday meal or charcuterie board!
There’s nothing like a good French red blend! Balanced, dry, medium body, medium tannins, Le Babbler is the ideal red for a cool autumn evening. It tastes of blackberries, strawberry jam, black currants, vanilla, and leather. Comfort!
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, this is a classic Bordeaux blend made sustainably. If you’re looking for a good red that isn’t overpowering but can hold its own alongside your Thanksgiving dinner, Le Babbler’s Bordeaux blend is it.
Happy November, friends! Let me know what you think if you try one of these natural wines. Cheers!
